Psalm 8

I find this psalm a little less straight forward than previous sections, but I sense it to focus on the majesty of the Lord, and all of his power. He created everything, and because he loves us he has given us domain over the animals. He truly is all powerful, so we should praise his holy name!

Today I helped my mom out. She has had high blood pressure that has been making her dizzy. She needs to watch her diet closer and lower her salt intake, so I went out and bought her some fruit and yogurt. With that and a little prayer, she'll be better in no time.

This is my favorite psalm. The imagery is breathtaking to me. I love the empowering feeling I get know the Lord is with me and I have nothing on earth to fear. The water and pasture are so serene, it represents the peace that comes with knowing Jesus. This peace leads to the healing that comes when he restores our souls. And in that blissful peace I will live for the rest of eternity :]

Isaiah 42:1-10

This passage talks about how God created the heavens, the Earth, and everything on the Earth. This includes everything evil in the world. The Lord is righteous and with cast his judgment when the time is right. We should praise Him, not graven images. I feel like there is more here that I am missing though.

Psalm 145

Once again this psalm talks about how God is all powerful and good, deserving of all praises. Then it goes into the Kingdom of heaven and how it will last eternally through the generations. It is truly majestic with God on his thrown. He s righteous, fulfilling the desires of those who love Him in due time. He will preserve them. The wicked shall perish.

Matthew 25:31-46

It really amazes me how we can serve God so simply. By helping the least, we are helping Jesus. And the examples in these verses are some of the bare essentials of life. These acts of love allow God's light to shine through us. Just the same though, if we don't lend a helping hand to those in need, we are also denying Jesus.

Mark 10:17-27

27- "With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible."
Truly astounding when you think about it! God can do ANYTHING. And this is why we have miracles. It's all from Him! Praise his holy name! Here we also see that our worldly possessions hold no value. It is easier to fit a camel through the head of a pin than a rich man get into heaven. We must recognize that God is the only one with true value.

I find this passage extremely motivating. My grandfather has referenced some of these verses before--works are a necessity to be justified---not faith alone. We must GO and DO the works that God commands us to do--then we can be perfected. You can't just stand there and SAY you're a Christian--you have to LIVE it.

Psalm 84

This psalm talks about how those who walk upright in the Lord are blessed. "no good thing will he withold from them who walk uprightly." Those that trust him Him are blessed. Through God we are strengthened and made holy. We choose the simplest goodness over the most appealing wickedness.

Collosians 1:15-23

From this I got that the Lord is the creator of ALL things in heaven and on earth--Good and Evil--everything. And everything was created FOR Him. We must dwell IN Him, the father. Because of Christ's sacrifice, our sins can be reconciled. We will be holy, unblameable, and unreproveable. We must stay grounded and unmoveable in his Word.

Ephesians 5: 1-14

Here it talks about how we must refrain from such sins as fornication, idolatry and covetousness in order to receive the kingdom of God. No one unclean will be accepted. We must not be deceived by vain words or we will feel God's wrath. Because we are children of God, we were once in the darkness, but now walk in the light. We must shed light on the darkened to expose the sin.

This passage talks about how the Holy Spirit must put us though a change of mind so we may think as Christ. This will cleanse us of our blindness, vanity, and greed. We will be renewed. Created righteous and holy. We will sin no more. When we keep the devil at bay, we will be able to gracefully profess God's word.

This psalm talks about how God holds all power. We should not be greedy for money, or become vain in our ways. God is our rock and our salvation. He is all-powerful. We are weak and helpless without him. Therefore we must trust in him and he will show us mercy. We will be unmovable in Him.

Romans 12:9-21

This passage talks about keeping a humble, peaceful heart. Rejoice in the good, and abhor the evil. Even when being persecuted, stay calm and humble. Keep an honest heart, and you will be rewarded. The focus should never be on yourself. Conquer evil with Good. Live with passion and be steadfast for the Lord.

Romans 12:1-8

This passage reads about how we must not conform to the world's ways. We have a purpose, and that is to sacrifice our lives for Jesus Christ, serving him. It comes through a state of mind. We all are part of the body of Christ as his children, but we all may serve him in different ways. We should not be measured by what we're doing but by how much faith we have when we're doing it. God has given us each a gift and it is up to us to utilize it to glorify Him and do His works.

Psalm 73

What a beautiful and resounding psalm to me. It talks to me about the differences between the Godly and the Ungody. Although those that sin may appear to be having a great time and basking in their unclean ways, they will ultimately be brought to destruction. We need not be envious. Just as we may endure suffering and discomfort on earth, we will end up living with Jesus forever. This life will turn into a fleeting second before we know it. We must drawer closer to God because he is the strength in our hearts.

Collosians 3:12-17

Here we see that God wants us to act kindly, humbly, and meekly. We must forgive those we fight with as Jesus forgave us. And with charity we can be perfect. We need to sing joyfully glorifying the Lord in his peace and justice. His peace and word must run our hearts. Let us thank Him for all that his has given us.

These verses talk about how we must shed ourselves of uncleanliness in order to live in Christ. God will shed his wrath on those that disobey. We must seek those things which are above. This world holds nothing that will last. We are dead, and God holds the key to our eternal life- Jesus.

This psalm talks about the praising the Lord for his righteousness and judgment. He is just. I find it interesting that the Lord forgives, but he still avenges. Righteousness is the forgiveness and the judgment is in the vengeance. Forgiveness is not just forgetting what happened. it is not holding a grudge.

James 3:1-12

The Lord is working. These verses are something I needed to read for myself. I am struggling with these sins and they have been fighting inside me for a while now. I understand the "double-mind" that the scripture talks about, but not in a way that is explained when I researched what it means to be double-minded-- It's like I'm not in my same mind when I sin, is how I understand it. It's a habit I've been trying to kick. We must purify ourselves whole-heartedly. The verses also talk about how we can not be friends with the world or we will be enemies of God.

Psalm 97

Yet again this psalm speaks about the Lord's mighty power and strength. He is truly righteous. Let all who worship idols and images turn away and turn to Him. He is the God of Gods. God will pass judgment on all of us. The good at heart will be joyful. He will deliver us from evil. Praise Hid holy name!

Philippians 3:12-21

Here it deals with striving for perfection. This is a topic I feel strongly about. I think that we should be able to reach a point where we live sinlessly. Yes, we are born sinners and everyone will sin at some point but when Jesus transforms us and we are born again, we should be able to live without sinning. Just like any bad habit we can break away from our sins. It is important that we do not let ourselves live with the mentality of-oh, its okay if I sin every once in a while, God will understand. We can not leave ourselves room to sin in our minds because all thoughts should be focused on Jesus' will.

This section talks about the meaninglessness of our worldly possessions. We must sacrifice it unto the Lord. Everything that we have gained is counted as a loss for Him. We may suffer as he did and be without our worldly desires so we may be dead and resurrected. We also must not put any confidence in the flesh--we must put our confidence in the Lord.

Matthew 20:20-28

This section talks about what it takes to sit at the right and left hand of Jesus in His kingdom. It is the Lord father who will decide. Until then we must act humbly, serve Him, and minister. We need to be like the the Son of God who came here to minister and give His life for others' benefit.

I am glad these verses came up. I always had an idea that something about fountains and water that spoke about language was in the bible, but I didn't know where. Yes--this is why I don't swear. How can we curse man and bless God with the same tongue?If even a little salt is added to fresh water, the water is no longer purely fresh. We must always watch our language because our tongues can be poisonous weapons if used wrongly.

Psalm 92

This psalm talks about how the Lord is righteous. There is a lot of wickedness in the world, but the Lord will pass judgment on all of the wicked, and they will perish. As His children we must do his works and be fruitful in them, and we will flourish. I love verse 12: "The righteous will flourish like the palm tree, he shall grow like a cedar in Lebabon." What beautiful imagery! Our Lord God is most high, and in his righteousness he deserves unending praise.

John 8:1-11

Here Jesus makes the point that no one should pass judgment on another unless he is without sin. Those that wanted to stone the adulteress could not go through with it because of there own convicted souls. Jesus' words, "Sin no more," are quite powerful. Maybe adultery was her only sin, and after that she was sinless.

I enjoyed this psalm. It talks about how there are people in this world who will try to drag you down into sin, but in the midst of them you can follow God and sing His praise. "My heart is fixed." Even when surrounded by darkness, you can still shine God's light. The Lord will spare his wrath and send mercy and truth to those of us that obediently follow Him.

Zechariah 7:4-14

Here the section touches on how we must not be selfish in our offerings to God. When we fast, we must not simply go through the motions--it is for HIM we fast and we must stay aware of that. It also says those who refuse to listen to God when he cries out to them, God will do the same and will not listen to their cries. It is only Just.

This is a great example of helping thy neighbor. Showing kindness towards strangers leaves a wonderful feeling inside. So many people don't want to get involved in other people's troubles, but taking the time and going out of your way to help someone you don't know that's in need can be very rewarding.

Psalm 13

This psalm basically says there are times in life when things are tough. We're going to feel like we're in the dark and alone, but that is never the case. God is always with us and through Him we can achieve salvation. He will provide.

Isaiah 58:1-11

I wasn't sure what to take from this reading after the first read through. After looking at some other versions I have gathered that this is about True and False fasting. We should not fast for our own motives. We should fast to glorify God and cleanse ourselves of wickedness. If we fast honestly the Lord will provide for us and make us strong.

I was very glad to hear that my friend's boyfriend who we have both been praying for is starting to turn towards the light. He previously did not believe in God, and now he's giving Him some thought and showing signs of changing his mind. I will continue to pray for him.

Micah 6:1-8

This section was a little hard to get through. Some references I was unfamiliar with. After a couple read-throughs I find this section to bring to light all that the Lord has done and provided for us, and how we owe so much to Him. He just wants us to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.

Sometimes I wonder if there are "do's and dont's" of praying. I want to make the most out of my prayers, and pray effectively. I continue to do the best I can.

Psalm 112

10. "The desire of the wicked shall parish."
What does this mean? Desire for what? I find this strongly stated but I am unsure of its meaning.
The rest of the psalm I understand better. Those who are upright in the Lord will be blessed. They will receive many rewards in heaven. We must also trust in the Lord--and have discretion with His judgement. We must be strong of heart--righteous.

Luke 15: 11-32

This passage teaches us about forgiveness. The son who took his father's money, ran away and lived in sin, only to become famished and return pathetically. Even though he knew he didn't deserve to be treated like a son, his father rejoiced in his return and clothed him in robes and fed him the fatted calf. His brother was angered by this because he had stayed with his father and clean and did not receive such gratefulness. The father was simply thankful that his son was not dead and that he had been found. His love is unconditional.

Psalm 148

This psalm is pretty straight-forward... Praise the Lord! He created all things, and is undeniably worthy of all praise. The imagery is beautiful here. From water to air to land to space, everything was created by Him and for Him, to glorify Him.

Every day it seems there are more and more people in my life falling to temptation. I pray that they may learn the error of their ways and seek Jesus whole-heartedly.

Matthew 18:15-35

Jesus speaks about how we must forgive those who trespass against us. How can we be forgiven if we cannot forgive? Jesus gives the example of the servant who's king forgives his debts, but then turns on his fellowservant and harasses him for the money he owes him--he does not forgive as he was forgiven. So his king sends him to the tormentors where he receives what he is due. Sounds fair to me. Forgiving is fortunately something I don't have a problem with.

I feel the need to pray for my friend Charlie. He has come a long way in his walk, but I feel he still has a ways to go and he hasn't realized it. He needs to start behaving like a Christian in public.

Psalm 27

This Psalm talks about the way we must seek Jesus, and we will be be able to see God and be in His temple, in His kingdom. Even if we get impatient, we must wait on the Lord. We have nothing to fear because the Lord is with us. He will set us up onto a rock.

I'm struggling to get through some problems with some friends who live in sin. I'm doing my best to set a good example but it can be difficult and frusterating to try to talk to them.

John 15:9-17

Jesus is speaking here about his children not being called his servants, but his friends. How wonderful is this! His love is unending, and we should love one another as he loves us. His love is the greatest--we must keep his commandment to love one another, and we will bear many fruits.

Today at work I opened up a conversation with my manager about Jesus. She loves Him too, but I feel she needs fellowship in order to stop sinning. I told her that I'd always be with her to talk to about God. I feel she has a lot of potential to grow, and fast.

John 15:1-8

Here the word speaks about how God is the Vine and we are the branches. We must bear fruit or we will be cut off. There's no point in having a branch if it doesn't serve a purpose. When he takes away a withered branch, it will be burned. When we abide in Him, we will bear lots of fruit. We can not bear any without Him. I love this metaphor!

Favorite verse: 5. "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."

John 15: 1-8

I hope to strike up conversation with my friends about Jesus when I see them tonight. It may be difficult, but I will take any opportunity I get.

Collosians 1:9-14

This section is about knowing and understanding God. When you understand and obey God's word, there is a relieving peace. God is so wise, so powerful. I crave knowledge from Him. I want to be fruitful for Him. I want to please Him. On my walk with the Lord, I need his strength. Praise Him.

This section spoke to me about staying pure. It is pretty straight forward- abstain from fornication and keep a clean lifestyle, keeping the commandments. If we obey the Lord, our lives will be fruitful. We must always love our brothers and sisters, and it will please God. If we hate or go against them, the Lord will avenge them.

1 Thessalonians 4:1-12

Today I went to Bible study and the worship felt amazing. Fridays we spend the whole time singing, and the Lord's presence was astounding today. It's times like those when I realize how truly blessed I am to have Him in my life.

Favorite verse: 15."That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among who ye shine as lights in the world."

I think often times we forget to shine, or we just don't shine enough. So often people will hear the word and it has a great effect on them, and then they bottle it up so no one else can see. I'm doing my best to shine my light and do what Jesus wants me to do. Everyone should see.

Today, I met a boy named Nate at school. He saw me with my Bible and said "So I guess you're religious." This started us on a meaningful conversation on how we live our lives and why we live that way. Nate is a very different individual who has experimented with drugs and sexuality. He says he wants to try everything at least once. After our conversation though, he had a good amount of respect for me and how I live. I hope to talk to him more to shed more light on him.

Wow. I love how this verse is worded. The point of the verse is to point out how we all should find comfort and joy in God and The Holy Spirit. After all, that is what Jesus did, and there is nothing wrong with having a mind equal to God. We should humble ourselves, admiring not only our own deeds but others' as well. Jesus himself was in the form of God, yet he was a servant, facing many hardships. Yet now we pray in His name. He is the Lord.

It is not always easy to live the way God wants us to live. In fact, it can be downright difficult to keep to His word all the time. This scripture shows how some people will reject Christianity, but we must take up our crosses and follow Jesus. We must not be ashamed of Him, or He will be ashamed of us when He returns.
I.V.- 33."Get thee behind me, Satan; for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men."
We will lose our souls if we give into Satan's worldly temptations, but we will have everlasting life through Christ.

22. "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."
We can read the word, but we must also apply it. We must be active to please God. But we must also be slow to anger because the wrath of man will not work the righteousness of God. Being humble, we can be swift to hear and slow to speak-- and that will save us. I enjoy the simile comparing being a hearer, not a doer of the word and a man looking at himself in a mirror. As soon as one moves away, he vanishes from sight, and forgets. We must know and do the word to keep ourselves clean in the world.

Favorite verse: 26. "With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible."

If we are to have eternal life, we must follow the commandments. Here, Jesus says to follow these- "Thou shalt not do murder, thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not bear false witness, honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." Jesus then goes on to explain we do not need our material possessions, because a rich man hardly enters the kingdom of heaven. We must follow Jesus in order to enter the kingdom of God.

Psalm 119: 11-24

16. "I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word."

I find this verse powerful. It is clear and to the point--a promise. A key to the entire section. We want to keep God's word and do his works well. We want to to please him and see God's wonders.

This post focuses on having respect for and keeping the commandments. People who walk in His ways and seek the Lord are blessed. May we not forget or stray from His path. We must be dilligent.

Psalm 1

Favorite verse- 3. "And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."

This psalm focuses on the need to stay surrounded in God's word. We should be in the presence of the Lord more so than the presence of the ungodly. I love the imagery in the tree simile here. God saves the righteous, but the sinners will fall.
